The vision of the One-2-One Ministry is to partner with families, to support them, to celebrate their child's success with them and to be part of their church family. We also value the contribution that all children make to the church, and we feel that our ministry is not complete when children aren't given the opportunity to learn from children with special needs. One-2-One volunteers attend training classes and they follow specific guidelines that help them minister to the special needs of each child. They also undergo a background screening.
We need weekly buddies, as well as occasional substitutes on both Saturday nights and Sunday mornings. If you would like to volunteer, or if you have a child (any age) who would benefit from one-on-one assistance on Saturday night or Sunday morning, please contact Karen at the Church Office (see below). Karen will schedule a meeting with you to discuss your child's specific needs and match your child with a volunteer.
Jake was always overwhelmed by going to his small group. It was difficult for him to participate and learn. Having a One-2-One partner has really helped Jake. He enjoys coming to church and he now has the extra support he needs to enjoy learning about God. It has also helped Jake to have someone he feels safe going to when he feels overwhelmed. We have begun to notice changes at home too. He has begun to initiate prayers at the table and at night. It is a very sweet and special time for our family. - Beth Hanby
My son Colin has autism and has been part of the One-2-One program for three years. I cannot say enough about how compassionate the staff has been. Even though Colin is nonverbal, he is accepted as a child of God. I can see how he is transformed by God through this program. I am also able to attend worship services with peace of mind. - Kathy Buckley
